This final project emerged in a studio course focused on incorporating analysis into design. We spent the semester studying Georgia's coastal counties through site visits, reading regional plans and analyzing regional maps. We then used our analysis to inform our design decisions. My project looks at the landscape of the UGA Aquarium and Shellfish Research Lab. UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant promote environmental stewardship through research, education and outreach. This site is home to their aquarium and education center as well as a lab for aquaculture research. After speaking with aquarium educators, I developed a scavenger hunt to further extend their educational mission into the landscape. The design serves to engage visitors with coastal concerns such as gopher tortoise conservation, sea level rise and stormwater management by navigating the site through a scavenger hunt.
